WW2 Iwo Jima flag raising

Congratulations to you Marines and family members, and Associate members of the SFVMCL Detachment #1277,

What an accomplishment! I stand proud of our detachment, as your founding Commandant, and as your brother.

From the day we first met, we have kept a proud tradition and unique camaraderie alive like no other Veteran's Organization I have been associated with. This milestone, and some of the tasks we have accomplished give us some deserved bragging rights, but there is still a lot of work to be done, Marines!

In our couple of years, we have only scratched the surface of getting the word out of our existence in the San Fernando Valley, yet,we now number over 100. My Brother Marines, we have a long way to go, a lot to do, and a lot to look forward to! I am confident that we will accomplish our objectives together, with high motivation . Remember, we're not a VFW or American Legion Post. We're not a Rotary or Elks Club, or a Free Mason Chapter, or any secret society by any means! We don't, and never will, hide the fact of who we are: We are the few, the proud, the Marines! ...and there's meaning to that, because we are Marines for life! We still have many challenges ahead of us: 1) recruiting as many Marines as possible so we can continue to grow and maintain tradition 2) start our young Marines program to help keep kids off the streets and in school, as part of our community and moral fabric interweave 3) assist in our community, and of course 4) strive to endeavor to have our own building and base of operations someday 5) continue to keep the high morale, proud traditions, and the friendships we have established amongst ourselves, until "taps" plays for us all one day...Tun Tavern started with less back in 1775...

Congratulations to all our founding fathers, and those who have joined our ranks since!
